Biography

Steve Rosa (elle/them) completed their Master of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of California, Irvine in 2015. Their emphasis was on Dance and Technology, with works that centered on Latinidad. Rosa also completed a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art, with a minor in Visual and Performing Arts Education, from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2011. Additionally, they are alumni of Cypress College (A.A. in Dance and Dance Teaching Certificate) and Cerritos College (A.A. in Photography).

As a collaborative artist, they work with projection design, filmmaking, multimedia installation, photography, sound design, and other media. Some selected collaborations are a dance film work with Alfonso Cervera and Diana Cervera, various works with Justin Morris, projection artist for Zombie music video by Jazzie Young, no)one art house (director of photography, projection designer, film editor, photographer, and video artist), and “Sentir El Son” (choreographer) a documentary exploring decolonization of the dancing body.

At present, Rosa holds the position of tenured professor and chair of the dance department at Saddleback College. In this capacity, they not only teach a diverse range of studio and lecture courses but also direct productions, spearhead the development of inclusive dance curriculum, and actively participate in equity-based initiatives within the broader campus community.
