Biography
Dr. Robert Abelson (AKA Dr. Bob) is a CA Certified General appraiser and has been appraising commercial and residential real property in Southern California since 1993. He has been teaching Real Estate Course at the CA Community Colleges since 1999. In 2002 Dr. Bob became an Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) Certified USPAP (Uniform Standards of Appraisal Practice) Instructor. He has taught both the 15-Hr. USPAP and 7-Hr USPAP Update courses over 100 times for many course providers. In 2010 he received his Certified Distance Education Instructor (CDEI) certification through the International Distance Education Center (IDEC).
Dr. Bob has been teaching at Saddleback College since 2011. In 2020 he received the Advancing Real Estate Education Award from the CA Community Colleges Real Estate Education Center. He teaches the RE200 (15-Hr USPAP), RE176A (Appraisal I) RE176B (Appraisal II) and RE178 (Real Estate Economics courses. He currently teaches courses at Saddleback College, Irvine Valley College, UCLA Extension and McKissock Real Estate.
Dr. Bob earned a bachelor’s in physics from State University of New York at Stony Brook, a master’s in physics from University of California Santa Barbara, and a doctorate in geophysics from University of California Los Angeles. After facing layoffs in the defense and aerospace industries during more than a decade of work, and with the encouragement of his wife Susan and friends, Bob started taking real estate classes at El Camino college in 1992 where he received a Certificate of Competence in Real Estate.
