Learning Resource Center (LRC)
Tutoring Services

Chris Athari

I have learned so much since I started tutoring my peers at the LAP. I have been tutoring for almost two semesters now and I can tell you that it truly has been a life changing experience. I learned so much about other people and other cultures. I also learned very much about myself.

My students have taught me many different things. They have taught me to be more patient and to be more understanding of others. I have learned that people in general need to be encouraged to succeed. Life is very challenging and for those that I have tutored a little encouragement can change everything. I came into contact with many different types of people everyday as well. There were a wide variety of nationalities, ages and cultures. I will never forget this lady named Rosangella. She was the sweetest lady. Everyday I would encourage her to be bold and study hard. Eventually she didn't need to come to me for tutoring as much as she used to. Things like that is what made my tutoring experience an extraordinary one.

I also learned very much about myself. I learned that I could really make a difference in peoples lives by giving back. The time that I give to people can make all the difference in the world. This is the greatest experience of all.

I loved tutoring at the LAP. I truly believe that those who give are the happiest in life. This experience has led me to start volunteering at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach as a Clinical Care Extender. My experience at the LAP truly has been life changing. I would highly encourage my peers to tutor at the LAP.
