Teacher Preparation Pipeline (TPP) Program

What is the TPP Program?

  • The state faces a critical shortage in career technical education (CTE) teachers
  • The Teacher Preparation Pipeline (TPP) program is aimed at recruiting the next generation of CTE teachers
  • Saddleback College is one of few institutions that offers such an opportunity
  • The TPP program is not just a job but a paid practicum

What are the benefits?

  • Earn 4 units during the Spring 2010 semester that transfer to the CSU system
  • Earn $10/hr for fieldwork experience in a local high school or ROP Career Technical Education class for 50 hours (approximately 5 hours a week) during the Spring 2010 semester
  • Meet with a TPP counselor to explore teaching pathways
  • Gain tangible experience in a possible career option
  • Discover if teaching might be a career for you!!

What is Career Technical Education (CTE)?

  • CTE programs provides students with:
    • Academic subject matter taught with relevance to the real world, often called contextual learning
    • Employability skills, from job-related skills to workplace ethics
    • Education pathways that help students explore interests and careers in the process of progressing through school

    But Career Technical Education is also about:

    • Second-chance education and training for the unemployed and those seeking to upgrade their employability skills
    • Education to earn additional degrees, especially when related to career advancement
    • Corporate training, continuing education, skills upgrades and refresher courses for those already in the workplace
  • Some of the CTE areas we have offered: Automotive Technology, Careers in Fashion, Child Development Careers, Computer Accounting, Computer Graphics, Computerized Accounting, Construction Tech, Crime Scene Investigation, Culinary Arts, Dance 1, Dance Performance 1 & 2, Dental Front Office, Dental Front Office, Digital Imagery, Drafting, Drama , Emergency First Responder, Energy & Environmental Technology, Entrepreneurship, Exploring Video Production, First Responder, Floral Design, Foods Nutrition and Business, Gourmet Foods, Intro to Marketing, Keyboarding, Microsoft Tools, Multimedia Production, Office Technology, Photography as Art, QuickBooks, Restaurant Careers, Retail careers, Retail Merchandising and Marketing, Retail Sales and Marketing Co Op, Fashion Careers, Sports Medicine, Study of TV/Film, Technology Tools, Theater Arts, Virtual Enterprise, Web Design, Woodworking

What is the application process?

  • Fill out the online application here for the Spring 2010 program:

Click here for the application and enter "TPPSP10" as the password

  • After you've applied, please click here and follow instructions to RSVP for a TPP workshop
  • In the workshop, you will receive more information about the program and meet with a counselor to see if it is a good fit for you

What happens if I am admitted?

  • You will be hired as a TPP Aide (You will be required to attend a hiring orientation, be fingerprinted and TB tested)
  • You will enroll in a 4 unit class (Once a week, night class from 7:00 - 9:50 p.m.)
  • You will be placed in a High School or ROP Career Technical Education class (Depending on your schedule and CTE subject)
  • You will be a TPP Aide for a total of 50 hours for $10/hr (5 hours a week aproximately) during the Spring 2010 semester and gain valuable experience
