Syllabus and Official Course Outline
Syllabus
All faculty members are required to prepare a syllabus for each specific class section. The syllabus should describe how the individual instructor will carry out the terms of the official course outline by giving specific dates, grading standards, and other rules of conduct required by the instructor. A syllabus allows the instructor to include methods and topics which may go beyond the course outline and gives the instructor the opportunity to bring out his or her individual talents and strengths. To learn more about developing a comprehensive syllabus, click here. For samples of exemplary course syllabi, click here.
Please provide the Division with a copy of your syllabus during the week of the first class session. You can give Sue Brown a hard copy of your syllabus or provide an electronic copy directly to Sue Brown or via scsbs@saddleback.edu.
Student Learning Outcomes
In response to a resolution recently passed by the Academic Senate, you please put the course Student Learning Outcomes on your Spring 2010 syllabi. You may simply replace the course objectives with the outcomes. To obtain the Student Learning Outcomes for your course, please contact your department chairperson.
For your convenience, please check out these sample syllabi:
Fall 2009 - Child Development
Fall 2009 - Sociology
Spring 2010 Sociology
Note: By posting the student learning outcomes on your syllabi, you will help your students better understand course learning expectations and the college with our accreditation process.
Official Course Outline
You can obtain a copy of your official course outline through Linda Hall or Sue Brown.
