Academic Standards for Online Instruction

In our Division, the faculty members who teach online classes are expected to maintain academic standards equal to that of our traditional classes. In accordance to Title 5, Section 55211, all approved courses offered as distance education include regular effective contact.

To assist with the creation and implementation of your online courses, click here for the academic standards for online instruction as outlined in Title 5.

The following document is in draft form. It was written and approved through the D.E. committee and will be presented to the Academic Senate for its approval. I highly endorse the content of this document for our current online instruction. To access this document, please click here.

Posting Class Lectures on YouTube

To assist students with their learning needs, you may consider posting pertinent lectures on YouTube. Check out what Melinda Klein, professor of History, is doing for her classes.

And, student feedback has been quite positive.

Blackboard Staging Server - General site for Blackboard Information - Blackboard STAGING Server

As you requested in your meeting last Thursday, you have been added to the Blackboard STAGING server.  Please use the your same login and password.

The website url is: http://socccdstaging.blackboard.com/

You may or may not see classes there.  These are all unavailable to students and student accounts are not active.  This server is used for trial purposes only.  You can develop courses here, however, some of the features you use may not be active on the live production server.  So it's not advised.

If there is a Building Block request or a feature you want more information about, please feel free to contact us or log into BB News and Info on your course listings on the PRODUCTION server.  Be sure to let us know about any problems you may experience so we can quickly take care of any problems that may arise.

If there are other classes you're interested in logging into such as Best Practices and Camtasia How to Create Online Video Orientations, feel free to let me know and I'll add you in.
