The evaluation of faculty is carried out in accordance with the Academic Employee Master Agreement.  The primary purpose of the evaluation process is the continued improvement of instruction.

Tenured Faculty

All tenured faculty members will receive an administrative evaluation every two years to be conducted by the division dean or vice president.  The evaluation is based upon one fifty-minute observation of the faculty member in performance of his or her duties, and will become a part of the faculty member’s official personnel file. A faculty member may also elect to have a second evaluation conducted by a tenured faculty member of his or her choice.  This second evaluation is intended for improvement of instruction, and it may become a part of the personnel file.

Student evaluations may be conducted through the Office of Instruction in at least one class, or its equivalent, during the time covered by the evaluation period. All faculty members are encouraged to implement their own student evaluation during the semester in order to assess student learning and success specific to their classes.  Student evaluations will not be included in the faculty member’s personnel files unless authorized by the instructor.

Probationary (Non-Tenured) Full-Time Faculty

Probationary faculty members will be evaluated by the division dean, as well as members of their Tenure Review Committee (TRC), on a yearly basis as part of the tenure review process.

Associate (Part-Time) Faculty

Associate faculty members will be evaluated during their first semester at Saddleback College, and once every four semesters thereafter.  Associate faculty will be evaluated by their department chairperson and/or the dean. A faculty member may also elect to have a second evaluation conducted by his or her department chairperson.  This second evaluation is intended for improvement of instruction, and it may become a part of the personnel file.

All Associate faculty members are encouraged to implement their own student evaluation during the semester in order to assess student learning and success specific to their classes.  Student evaluations will not be included in the faculty member’s personnel files unless authorized by the instructor.
