Matriculation Alternative Evidence and Exemptions
Students may use Alternative Evidence to be exempt from the English portion of the assessment if you provide one or more forms of the following evidence:
- Provide English assessment results with course placement from another California Community College.
- Provide an official or unofficial copy of your transcript(s) showing courses taken in English Composition at another college or university and have received a passing (C or better) final grade in the course. High school English courses CANNOT be used for this evidence.
- Provide proof of completion of the College Board Advanced Placement (AP)® English Lit/Comp or Lang/Comp exam with a score of 3 or higher. Only College Board official or unofficial results can be submitted.
Students may use Alternative Evidence to be exempt from the math portion of the assessment if you provide one or more forms of the following evidence:
- Provide math assessment (MDTP Test ONLY) results with a raw score from another California Community College.
- Provide an official or unofficial copy of your transcript(s) showing courses taken an Algebra or Calculus course at another college or university and have received a passing (C or better) final grade in the course.
- Provide proof of completion of the College Board Advanced Placement (AP)® math Calculus AB or BC exam with a score of 3 or better. Only College Board official or unofficial results can be submitted.
Important things to remember:
- A College Prerequisite Evaluation Form is required when sending any of the above documents to our office. Evaluations can take 5 to 10 business days to evaluate so please submit your request at least 2 weeks prior to your registration period.
- Students that meet any one of the above exemptions are still be required to complete the remaining steps of the Matriculation process.
You may be exempt from all or part of the Matriculation process if you have completed 30 or more college units or if you choose one of the following educational goals. If you have any questions about your Matriculation status please call or e-mail the Matriculation office.
- Prepare for a new career (acquire job skills)
- Advance in current job/career (update job skills)
- Discover/Formulate career interests, plans, goals
- Maintain certificate or license
- Complete credits for HS diploma or GED
- Educational development
- 4-year college student taking courses to meet 4-year college requirements
Students who have selected the wrong educational goal or amount of college units completed on their Saddleback College application may change their Matriculation status by meeting all criteria on the Change Matriculation Status Form. Completed forms that have met all the criteria will be processed within 48 hours. If a student waives his or her rights to participate in the matriculation process they will only be eligible to enroll in the entry level math (351) and/or English (300/340) courses or can provide alternative evidence (information above).
