What is Financial Aid?

In its simplest definition, financial aid is money which helps you to pay the cost of your education. The money comes from several sources—the federal or state governments and often the institutions you attend. The various types of aid are shown below.

I.      FEDERAL PROGRAMS*

1.     LOANS (Awards of money which must be repaid):

  • Federal Carl D. Perkins National Direct Student Loan (formerly NDSL).
  • William D Ford Direct Student Loan Program

2.     GRANTS (Awards of money that need not be repaid):

  •   Federal Pell Grant
  •   Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG)
  •   Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG).
  •   Bureau of Indian Affairs Grants. (BIA)

3.     JOBS:

  •   Federal Work-Study Program. (FWSP)

II.  STATE OF CALIFORNIA PROGRAMS

1.     EXTENDED OPPORTUNITY PROGRAMS & SERVICES GRANT (EOPS)

2.     CAL GRANT A, B & C

3.     CHAFEE GRANT

4.     BOARD OF GOVERNORS FEE WAIVER. (BOGFW)

III. SADDLEBACK COLLEGE PROGRAMS

1.     SCHOLARSHIPS

2.     EMERGENCY LOANS

* Federal Law requires that institutions participating in Federal Title IV Financial programs establish Drug Abuse programs for students and staff. Following are the programs in place and available, if needed:

1.     The Crisis Intervention Team is available every day for counseling and referral.

2.     Students may make appointments with a member of our mental health team by contacting Student Health Services.

3.     Full-time faculty, staff, and families may make appointments with PacifiCare, which provides counseling.

4.     Referrals for on-going drug abuse can be made to the Orange County Mental Health Services.
