GIS is an interdisciplinary field of study closely linked with geography, cartography, spatial analysis, and information management.

This course is designed to introduce the novice to the fundamentals of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and to provide hands-on training with one of the widely used GIS software packages (ArcGIS or MapInfo).

The goal of the class is to develop the student's ability to formulate geographic questions, design step-by-step analyses, evaluate the processes and results, and to a present polished cartographic product.
