Distance & Online Education Resources

This page will provide you with the resources necessary to continue to be successful in your online coursework at Saddleback College. You may want to bookmark this page so that you can access it directly from your browser menu.

Blackboard Login
Blackboard is the course-management system (CMS) used for our online courses.

MySite
College portal for student's email, view history or current schedule, plan for success etc..

Student College Email Instructions:

Possibly the most important communication tool you have, a college email address will be automatically assigned to you within 24 hours of your registering for a class.

To find your college email address:

  1. Log in to MySite with your student ID number and your four-digit PIN.*
  2. Click on “My Email”
  3. Click on “Overview”

The chart that appears when you click on “Overview” contains:

  • “Web Mail Documentation” (a 5-minute tutorial on using your college email)
  • Your college email address
  • Your “account name” which is also your username for your email account and Blackboard
  • An example showing you how to add two zeros to the end of your four-digit PIN to create your password to your college email account and to Blackboard

You may then click on “Web Email” to enter your college email account or, if you already have your username and password, click here.

*If you have forgotten your PIN, please see below for instructions on how to locate your PIN.

Options to retrieve PIN for MySite access:

  1. At the MySite login page, click on “Forgot My PIN.”  The secret question will appear and will allow access to My Site if answered correctly.  Student may change the PIN at this point.  Change the PIN will allow access to MySite only and will not change the password to either college email nor Blackboard.
  1. In some cases, the PIN is the last 4 digits of the Social Security number.
  1. For students who have completed the online application, return to CCC Apply application to retrieve PIN.  (At http://www.saddleback.edu choose “Admissions” then choose “Apply for Admission”).
  1. Come to A&R with a photo ID.
  1. If unable to retrieve the PIN by options #1 through #4, contact A&R to have the PIN mailed to the permanent address on file.  (if students should call A&R, the contact number is 949-582-4555.)

Strategies for Success!

Have the Required Course Materials
  1. Make sure you have a syllabus for the course you are taking or know where to find it online. Many faculty post it on their website or their faculty profiles.  Read it carefully; it should answer most of the questions you have about the course.
  2. Textbooks, study guides, exam forms and other course materials may be purchased at the Saddleback College bookstore or though other online outlets. The bookstore is located on the first floor of the Student Services Building.  Be sure to purchase all required materials PRIOR to the start date of the class.
Develop a Study Plan
  1. Instructors may provide a set study plan for you.  If not, use the assignment schedule from your syllabus or the broadcast schedule for a video or radio course to develop a schedule for completing the weekly assignment(s): doing the required reading and/or written assignments, participating in discussion board forums, conducting internet research, watching videos, or listening to the radio.
  2. Keep notes for each unit or topic. By doing this, you will be able to review for examinations in an organized and timely manner.
  3. Keep to the schedule and don’t get behind in the work.  Most distance education courses are not self-paced and require that you submit assignments or participate in class discussions on a weekly basis.
Avoid Interruptions
  1. Let your family or roommates know about your study schedule and ask that you not be disturbed while you are studying.
  2. Avoid interruptions and distractions while you are completing your course work. Let your answering machine get the telephone or take it off the hook if no one else is available to answer calls.
Recruit a Group of Study Partners
  1. If possible, identify one or more classmates with whom you can review assignments, discuss lessons, and prepare for examinations.
  2. Use the questions at the end of each topic or unit in your study guide, if provided, to discuss general concepts of the course.
  3. Look for ways to relate and apply what you are learning to the world around you. Share this with the study group.

Orientation
Some of our online classes have an on-campus orientation prior to the start date, while others have an online orientation that is part of the course materials on Blackboard. Students should look on the online course schedule under the faculty profile (faculty profile icon) for specific information pertaining to each class and its availability.

Parking Information
