Gauchos cruise past Pirates in OEC home-opener
Saddleback improved to 2-0 in Orange Empire Conference play with a 72-42 win over Orange Coast College on Wednesday night at the Saddleback Gymnasium. The Gauchos finished the first half on a 23-5 run en route to its second largest margin of victory for the season.

Gauchos surge past Pirates in OEC home-opener
The Saddleback women’s basketball team had a big second half in winning its first conference game of the season over Orange Coast College, 71-62, on Wednesday nigh at the Saddleback Gymnasium. Myishia Watkins scored a game-high 22 points as the Gauchos erupted for 44 points in the final 20 minutes.

Saddleback well represented on all-region team
The Saddleback football program got some more good news this week when the JC Athletic Bureau and California Community College Football Coaches Association announced its annual All America and All-Region teams. Five different Gauchos were named to the All-Region IV Team, the second most of any program in Southern California.

Five Gauchos choose their next home
The Saddleback football team announced that five players from the 2012 squad have chosen a new home for next season. It is just the beginning of what appears to be another banner year for the football program moving guys on to the next level.

Gauchos come up just short against IVC
The women’s basketball team came up just short in falling to Irvine Valley College, 59-56, on Friday night at IVC. The Gauchos had a late surge against the Lasers, who entered the game at No. 8 in Southern California.

Gauchos clamp down on IVC in President’s Cup
The Saddleback men’s basketball team received 18 points from Josh Smith on way to a 54-49 win over Irvine Valley College in the opener of the Orange Empire Conference schedule on Friday night at IVC. The two schools play for the President’s Cup every year, which combined with the women’s games has a trophy that is passed around between the two programs.

X-Gaucho kicks Boise State to MAACO Bowl win
Former Saddleback kicker Michael Frisina nailed a 27-yard field goal with 1:16 remaining in the game to lift Boise State to a 28-26 win in the MAACO Bowl on Saturday in Las Vegas. Frisina made good on three field goals in the game as the Broncos beat Washington to finish 11-2 on the season.

Gauchos overcome rough start to beat Miramar
The Saddleback men’s basketball team overcame a rough start in beating Miramar College, 58-48, on Thursday night at the Saddleback Gymnasium. The Gauchos clamped down on defense in the second half, holding the Jets to just 16 second-half points.
