Gaucho Men's Basketball Alumni
Besides head coach Andy Ground, the most notable alumnus is current Denver Nugget point guard Anthony Carter. AC played on Saddleback's 1994-95 and 1995-96 teams, earning MVP honors of the Orange Empire Conference both seasons. He averaged a state-leading 23 points during his sophomore season, leading the Gauchos to a 27-6 record and a trip to the state tournament. During his freshman season he helped the team to a similar 27-6 record and into the regional finals of the playoffs. He earned a scholarship to the University of Hawaii where he was an All-America nomination, leading the Warriors to their first-ever NCAA tournament berth. He was originally drafted by the Miami Heat where he played for Pat Reilly. He also played with the San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves before being picked up by Denver for the 2007-08 season.
