Quarteto Nuevo performs at Saddleback College. Cquarteto_nuevo_with_instruments.jpgritically acclaimed virtuoso instrumental ensemble founded in 2001 by master percussionist Christopher Garcia. Each member has a rich background in diverse music making with the instruments and the music of North and South India, western classical, indigenous Mexican, folkloric and jazz music with an ensemble sound unlike any other.

Trombonist Ryan Dragon joins the Saddleback Jazz Lab in concert. Born in Orange County, California in 1987 Dragon began studying trombone at the age of 10 under the leadership of Bill Tole, Ira Nepus, and Joey Sellers. After finishing Esperanza High School, Dragon attended the Berklee School Of Music where he studied Jazz Composition. Dragon's first engagement was a Cirque Du Soleil show called Bananna Schpeel, a traveling show in Canada. After Cirque, Dragon spent a short stint in NY where he freelanced before finally moving to Los Angeles where he currently lives. In LA Dragon enjoys playing With Gordon Goodwins Big Phat Band, John Beasley's MONK'estra, The StradBand, Kim Richmonds Concert Jazz Orchestra, John La Barbera's Big Band, Ron King's Big Band, Danny Seraphine's C.T.A, Lee Ritenhour Bill Holman and Mark Masters Ensemble to name a few.

The holiday tradition just wouldn’t be complete without joining Clara and her Nutcracker prince to experience the enchanting Nutcracker Ballet presented by the Laguna Ballet in its sixth season at Saddleback College.  Over 75 Orange County students come together each year, under the direction of Artistic Director Shery Gilbert, to present this full-length Nutcracker, Tchaikovsky’s most famous composition and the most popular ballet in the world.

Southern California ftimhall-trumpet.jpgreelance musician Tim Hall performs at Saddleback's free Concert Hour. Hall has performed in a variety of ensembles including the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, L.A. Opera, Orange County's Pacific Symphony, Opera Pacific, California Philharmonic, Long Beach Opera, Pasadena Symphony, Long Beach Municipal Band, Disneyland Band, and the Laguna Beach Pageant of the Masters Orchestra. He has toured the United States, Europe, and Asia with various groups and lived in Japan for five years while performing at the Huis Ten Bosh resort. He teaches trumpet at Chapman University.

Taylor Ho Bynum is a Boston-area cornetist whose wide-ranging musical interests include free jazz, modern composition, and interdisciplinary projects with dancers and filmmakers.  A central figure in avant garde jazz for more than three decades, Los Angeles-native Mark Dresser emerged out of the vital but often overlooked Southern California free jazz scene in the early 1970s.markdresser.jpg

Directed by Scott Farthing, choreography by Deidre Cavazzi and Musical Direction by Lex Leigh, the whole family is in for a treat with this interactive theatre experience on the lawn of Saddleback’s upper campus quad. Purchase great food from a variety of food trucks or bring a picnic then, sit back with friends and family and enjoy Saddleback College’s first free outdoor musical theatre event.

Angels for the Arts at Saddleback is a fundraising and support organization for the Performing and Visual Arts at Saddleback College.  Angel members donate their time and talent to raise funds and assist with a variety of arts events on the campus.  The group is led by a volunteer advisory board of directors.

Why we exist…

Angel members believe in the importance of offering a full spectrum of arts to the community, with the college as the focal point.  These events bring together Orange County residents from all walks of life, for the purpose of enlightenment, entertainment, and inspiration.
