The Tony Inzalaco Quintet
Mission Viejo, CA -- Jazz Studies at Saddleback College is proud to present the Tony Inzalaco Quintet on Tuesday, April 30th at 7 pm in the McKinney Theatre. Drummer Tony Inzalaco studied at the Manhattan School of Music and he played with many musicians including Billy Taylor, Johnn Smith, Buddy Rich, Vinnie Burke, Maynard Ferguson, Jim Hall, Chris Connor, Ben Webster, Jaki Byard and Lee Konitz. All compositions for the concert were written by Tony Inzalaco. The rest of the musicians include: Nolan Shaheed on trumpet, Benn Clatworthy on tenor sax, Vicki von Eps on piano and Richard Reid on bass.

Jazz Studies at Saddleback College emphasizes creativity through improvisation and ensemble performance. Focusing on the historical, theoretical and intuitive aspects of this American music, Director Joey Sellers and an outstanding cadre of nationally recognized musicians comprise the jazz faculty. Curricula include Improvisation, Jazz Composition and Arranging, Jazz History Syllabus, Jazz History Audio, Jazz History Podcast, Jazz Piano, Saddleback Big Band, Jazz Lab Ensemble, and Combos. Students in Jazz Studies at Saddleback College have transferred to prestigious institutions including University of Southern California, Eastman School of Music, Berkeley School of Music, Cal State Northridge, UCLA, Cal State Fullerton, University of California at San Diego, and other regional institutions. Some of our alumni have gone on to play professionally with Frank Zappa, Diana Ross, and other high-profile artists and organizations.

Take Avery Parkway to Marguerite Parkway turn left to the third traffic light, which is Saddleback’s Marguerite entrance. In conjunction with Dorothy Garant in the Saddleback College Dance Department, the Professional Guest Artist Series is thrilled to present the Eisenhower Dance Ensemble performing residency and NewDANCEfest performances in the McKinney Theatre on Sunday, February 10th at 3:00 pm. The presentation of the Eisenhower Dance Ensemble was made possible by the MetLife Community Connections Fund of the New England Foundation for the Arts’ National Dance Project. Major support for NDP is also provided by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation with additional support from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
The Department of Theatre Arts program at Saddleback College produces several fully-staged shows each year. All students are given the opportunity to audition for every production yet Theatre Arts students are given priority in the casting process. In addition there are numerous opportunities for students to contribute in backstage activities through the Entertainment and Theater Technology program.

Distinguished Argentine pianist Mario Merdirossián presents an entertaining approach about the factors leading up to the invention of the piano as well as its 300 years of evolution. “Merdirossián deserves to be noted amongst our best musicians.” – La Prensa, Buenos Aires.

On Friday, May 10th at 8 pm in the McKinney Theatre, the evening performance will feature a wide selection of dances, marches and other well-known pieces such as: Ticheli’s Shenandoah, Smetana’s Three Revolutionary Marches, Mozart’s Impresario Overture, Khachaturian’s Armenian Folk Song and Dance, Creston’s Celebration Overture and Nelson’s Courtly Airs and Dances.

The picturesque repertoire will include Tan Dun’s Eight Memories in Watercolor, Gilead Mishory’s Rega’im, and a preview of the world premiere of Carlos Rafael Rivera’s La Quinta del Sordo – five short pieces inspired by the paintings of Goya.
