Students that have attended another college or university and have completed and passed a math and English course that are equivalent to courses at Saddleback College do NOT have to take the assessment exam. Please see read below for the accepted methods and how to submit your Alternative Evidence.

English Alternative Evidence

Students may use Alternative Evidence in place of the English portion of the assessment exam or to clear a prerequisite if you provide one or more forms of the following evidence:

  • Provide English assessment results including test type, tests scores, and course placement from another California Community College.
  • Provide an official or unofficial copy of your transcript(s) along with the math and English Prerequisite Evaluation form (see bleow) showing completed courses in English Composition from another U.S. college or university and have received a passing (C or better) final grade in the course.
  • Provide proof of completion of the College Board Advanced Placement (AP)® English Lit/Comp or Lang/Comp exam with a score of 3 or higher. Only College Board official or unofficial results can be submitted.

Note: High school English courses CANNOT be used for this evidence.

Math Alternative Evidence

Students may use Alternative Evidence in place of the Math portion of the assessment exam or to clear a prerequisite if you provide one or more forms of the following evidence:

  • Provide math assessment (MDTP Test ONLY) results that include the test type, test level, and a raw score from another California Community College.
  • Provide an official or unofficial copy of your transcript(s) showing courses taken an Algebra, Trig, Pre-Calculus or Calculus course at another U.S. college or university and have received a passing (C or better) final grade in the course.
  • Provide proof of completion of the College Board Advanced Placement (AP)® math Calculus AB or BC exam with a score of 3 or better. Only College Board official or unofficial results can be submitted.

Note: Saddleback College only accepts the MDTP math placement exam from other California Community Colleges and you must provide a placement results page that includes the test level and raw score you received.

Note: High school Math courses CANNOT be used for this evidence.

Steps for Submitting Alternative Evidence

  1. Print out and complete a Math and English Prerequisite Evaluation Form. Evaluations can take 5 to 10 business days to evaluate so please submit your request at least 2 weeks prior to your registration period.
  2. Obtain a copy of your other college/university transcripts, California Community College assessment results or your College Board AP score report. Unofficial copies may be used for this process but they must have the college and student's name printed on them.
  3. Submit all documents to the Matriculation Office. Accepted methods of submittal are located at the top of the Math and English Prerequisite Evaluation Form.
  4. Follow the instructions on the form in box #5 to view your placement results on your MySite. We cannot provide any placement information over the phone or email.

Note: The Matriculation Office does not accept photos of any documents taken with a phone or a camera for course placement. All documents must be printed/scanned and emailed, submitted by fax, or dropped off at Village 8-5.

Note: Students that are required to matriculate and use Alternative Evidence to clear their assessment exams are still required to complete the remaining steps of the Matriculation process.
