Why be involved in a conference? So many reasons. . . .
One of the most valuable experiences available to Honors students is participation in undergraduate research conferences. These really are "extraordinary" in the true sense of the word. Most undergraduates never participate in research conferences.
Although these conferences are definitely not part of the ordinary undergraduate experience, every Saddleback student who has ever attended one of these conferences as either a presenter, volunteer, or just audience member, has said it was a rewarding, exciting, and even fun experience. Students who have attended one conference always want to attend another one!
In addition to the annual IVC/SC Student Research Symposium, hosted alternatively at Saddleback College and Irvine Valley College, the following conferences are part of the regular Honors calendar:
Students who do exemplary work at these conferences may receive financial awards, research grants, and publications. Here is a (very) partial list of published and award-winning works by Saddleback students, which they have allowed to be shared here in order to encourage and give models to Saddleback students considering participation in conferences:
Leonard Woolf: Anti-Imperialist and Advocate of International Peace
(Outstanding Abstract Award)
Nur Al-Din Mahmud: Unsung Hero of the Second Crusade
(Outstanding Abstract Award; UCI Research Grant Winner
